While Madden NFL was a mainstay on Nintendo platforms, the show was absent in its consoles for nearly a decade. As per a recent job listing at EA, however, that will finally be shifting.
EA's long-running soccer simulation series continues to sell well, despite obvious criticism from what sounds like the majority of its player base. The franchise's latest iteration, Madden NFL 21, attracted significant complaints from gamers, giving the game a egregiously low score on Metacritic. The title's glitched physics, various gameplay bugs and a general perceived shortage of polish in launch led it to be listed among the most disappointing games of 2020, with enthusiasts at one point becoming the hashtag NFLDropEA to trend on Twitter.
Upon further inspection, one of those sections under project requirements asks for two decades of expertise working on"Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo game consoles." While it may not be too much to go off of, past similar job listings at EA have not mentioned Nintendo within their standards. The last time the series needed a presence on any Nintendo platform was Madden NFL 13 about the Wii U. Back in 2018, EA had said they did not intend on bringing the show to the Change, but the business giant is apparently changing its tune using the hybrid system.
If the theory behind the work listing be true, it would signal an ongoing shift in the connection between the big N and Electronic Arts, together with several of its franchises becoming available on the portable console. The company has ported its free-to-play battle royale title Apex Legends to Switch. Muddy images, poor textures, and lowered framerates have turned many fans off from attempting to play with the fast-paced FPS on the stage.
