Final Fantasy 16: How to Get the Ancient Sword

Final Fantasy XVI tells the story of Clive Rosfield, who strives to make Valistea a better place for its inhabitants. To do this, the brave protagonist will need to fight a lot, and acquiring powerful weapons can make this process much easier. Players can prepare enough Final Fantasy XVI Gil in the game.

While most of the best weapons in Final Fantasy XVI can only be obtained through crafting, some weapons can be found in chests. There are countless chests scattered around Valistia, but players hoping to find the chest containing the Ancient Sword may have a hard time, as it's easy to miss, especially if players skip the "Life and Death" side quest.

Before players can obtain the ancient sword, they must first complete Final Fantasy XVI's "Out of the Shadows" thirty-second main quest. Once this is done, the main quest of the advance begins, and Clive will be tasked with heading to Pokrad, a new area in the northeast corner of the Dalmekian Republic. Once the player is in the area, the hunt for the Ancient Sword can begin.

Players who have activated the Obelisk of Bokrad can fast travel there and head south into the Stairway of the Forsaken. Instead of leaving the area, Clive should go to the center and turn right facing southwest. Here, he'll be faced with a hill he can climb; a wall near the top will prompt him to climb to a new area. Players who have completed the Life and Death side quest should be familiar with this area, but they may have missed the chest containing the ancient sword.

Once Clive climbs this wall, the player will see a treasure chest directly ahead. Interacting with it will reward Clive's Ancient Sword, one of Final Fantasy XVI's secret weapons.

Ancient Sword Statistics
The Ancient Sword has an impressive 252 attack and 252 stagger, just 16 less than the Excalibur sword. It can serve as a very useful replacement for Excalibur if the player hasn't already acquired it, but it's still rather lacking in terms of power, especially in the "Advance" main quest.

To make matters worse, players can craft Excalibur before visiting Berkrad, making the Ancient Sword seem like a very unnecessary addition to Clive's armory. That said, its description does provide a brief glimpse into the Age of the Fallen, so players wishing to familiarize themselves with Valistia's history may want to seek it out.

The ancient sword cannot be strengthened; the only way to increase its power is to equip Clive with different accessories or make him drink a power tonic. The Genji gauntlet accessory deals 5% more damage to enemies; the Might badge increases Attack by 7 or 12, depending on whether the accessory is enhanced or not.
